DoubleFine said it would take around 30-40 million American dollars to fund Psychonauts 2. How in the hell could a Kickstarter project generate that much money in six months? Let alone a month? Even if everyone playing CCP's current MMO (around 400k~ population) pledged fifty dollars, they'd only have 20m to work with. SWTOR cost somewhere between 50m and 300m dollars. MMOs are expensive beasts, someting as epic as WOD Online -- easily 50 million right there. Easily. I don't think it's feasible. Even if you combined CCP's "fan base" and WW's fan base, you simply would need to ask everyone to contribute $100 or more to get the game off the ground. And then what, people would be expected to wait several years before they could finally play with the thing they purchased? It's simply not possible. Kickstarter's greatest potential is probably 10m dollars for a single project. And that would be for some kind of a sequel to a cult classic from a trustworthy AAA company. And that wouldn't probably be even enough money for CCP to develop a proper sequel to VTMB. |

I'll say it one more time: preorder -> closed beta. It would generate some revenue at least |

Mainly interested in beta access? I thought people would love to be part of the development process, but I guess just playing the game earlier (beta) is enough for most. Maybe not everyone would like an opportunity to pay for the privilege to create a bit for the game; for example: *Storytellers could introduce some of their favorite NPCs and or quest stories they have created over the years into the game to be evaluated and used in game. * People who love to create characters may have early access to the character creator in order to design some NPCs * If players can customize their heavens in any way, use that technology to offer people to design some in game interirors (for example a night club or NPCs houses/heavens. * Arists could give original digital artwork to be hanged at certain locations I guess the majority of people just want to play the game and is not interested on seeing their creations or their name on some in game wall. In that regard, I understand why a model like this kickstarter pledge thing would be: “meh, it’s ok if I get into the beta”

I dont know what closed betas you've been in, but the ones i've been in are very involved in developing and fixing the game mechanics before release, usually where the players are in IRC with the devs, talking e-face to e-face about issues that come up, live. |

That right there is an awesome idea. Everyone should be emailing their best ideas and game concepts to CCP already. |

Likely I would not donate. You wanna take the risk, and you better, you will get the reward..sometime, 2014? Gah, DON'T make me wait that long... Anyway, I was working at a factory, and had a friend, that decided to start a poetry site. Yep, a poetry site. And he didn't ask for donations, but, that really cool, tight community did in fact donate. So, after that, he could only complain because the emails/donations kept rolling in, he made over $100k doing that. Started learning html and all that....and the sad story is, he got the money and didn't produce a website. He is now a plumber!!???!??!!! I am not kidding. Beta, cool, we are going. Sign up, heck yah, triple for me if I could. Wanna promise something? Not even coming close to sending money. My 2 cents here. |

I would put up some real cash, and if they offered a way to invest in the game I would put up significant cash. Chubby midget strippers or not. If you are going to do this right, sell stock let the damn Ventrue open those squeaky fuckin coffers and pull out some cash. Let's make it happen. |

I would donate, but let's be real here, does anyone seriously think CCP is short on cash? They should be swimming in capital right now. The reason WoD's development seems so snail-like is probably because the higher ups are hesitant about the widespread appeal of the game, and are probably taking it slow to ensure a reasonable amount of resources is designated to WoD. |
