My apologizes, they had to come down sadly. However we will have some goodies for you in the future to make up for it. I can't say much more then that but to once again apologize for the false alarm. For those that did get a sneak peek before they were pulled if you saved them we ask you do NOT distro them. This comes as a polite request from CCP. Thank you for your understanding and I realize this is the second time we had to pull media. It sucks, I know. However there are bigger rewards down the road for your understanding, I promise you. If you feel the need to yell at someone over this take it out on me, not my staff. They were not part of this decision. Thank you for your patience.
As a consolation see
this blog entry done by myself which is a first impression of the images in question.

@Beren - From someone who has been a observer of s/w development for some time I thought, as I told CCP Chris, even the prototype looked really good for what it was. And really showed a positive direction in concept. However, I understand his fears someone that does not have the background of him or I could easily NOT see the potential I saw. And thus walk away with a bad taste in their mouth thinking the rough prototype is what will ship. Having been in s/w development many moons ago I understand his point of view and the reason I choose to heed his request. I ultimately have a responsibility, not to CCP, but to the community. And I felt it would be, at the very least, a failure as a community leader to show images that were never meant to be released that in the end, put the game in a bad light. That does a disservice not only to the member here, but the community and all the dev who work on this. Everyone. As it will very possibly scare potential new members to the community away. And that is the total opposite of what we clearly want. We want to foster and nurture the community to grow not do the opposite just because we want short term instant gratification. I hope that clears things up. :)

Thank you for the fast response Chris. =) Your impressions and the comments on the current state is really satisfying for now at least and i can't expect much currently. Small things like these makes me and the community relieved, more excited and more dedicated. It gives me strength to wait like Beren said. This small update definately made up for the missing screenshots. For me at least. Thanks again, i will be stay tuned ;)

Thanks a bunch for the clarifications, Chris.
I would actually prefer to wait and see some screenshots post-refactoring instead of the Proof-of-Concept screenies that were posted.
I'm also glad to hear about the movement/animation system, hopefully you'll be able to elaborate in due time :)
I think i can wish you Good luck from all of us, and hope to hear from you guys sooner than later :)

I can't speak for everybody, but what you wrote us is really important for me. Knowing even roughly "where" you are with the realization of the game fills me with the awareness that you are actually working hard and well.
This doesn't mean I didn't believe it before, but your message crossed the line between faith and knowledge, and I'm really thankful for this ;)
Maybe sometimes you (CCP) can give infos like these: telling actually "nothing" of the game itself but telling us what are your impressions and the conceptual problems you had to fight and solve =) However I don't dare more than suggest =P I surely won't ask more than what you wrote Chris, since it is already really much for me.

I know it is difficult to be patient, it is even more difficult for us to hold back on showing things.
Much of what was shown in those screens was from a prototype we called Year One. It was vertical slice of gameplay and was very playable, but made with non-performant hacked systems, placeholder art and was held together with duct tape.
Once we liked the gameplay we had, we stripped it back down and have started building on the already existing EVE engine and tech. We have reverted to all "gray box" environments while we work on finished rendering tech. We don't want to spend any money or time creating assets that might not fit the technical needs when rendering systems are done.
"Playable" would be an iffy word for what we have right now. We are putting shippable gameplay systems back in one by one and it will take us quite a while. However, movement/animation systems are looking good with some surprises not seen in any other MMO. We are currently moving on to combat systems.
CCP's current focus is DUST 514 (which has some big announcements upcoming) so don't expect to see or hear too much about World of Darkness until DUST is live. However, progress is steady and the team is stoked.
Hopefully that small update makes up for the missing screenies. :-) Sorry you had to sit through that prototyping thing, somebody dropped out of that presentation and I was asked to fill in on short notice. I did that with only a few minutes of prep (and I was a little tipsy). ;-)

Hey Chris, i didn't see the photos unfortunately. But i'm pretty sure they were awesome even if they were prototypes. I have a strong trust in you and your team that you guys won't let us down. I understand your concerns about the prototype images, i do respect that. But everyone here deserves a little piece of image or info about the current state. These guys including myself are waiting for a decade nearly. I know there are Carbon tech. videos out there and some concept arts. But god knows i've watched them for 1000 times already. Is it soooo incomplete that you aren't showing anything about the game. Or does the game is actually at a playable state( i recall that some of the official guys said this) but you want to be 100% sure that you won't write it off and start to build it over again. I know i've watched your prototyping video too. You sometimes start it from the beginning while throwing the current state away. I just wanna ask if the game is at a playable state (talking about core mechanics) or it is so unpolished that you don't actually have something concrete. Thanks in advance i hope you read and answer this.

@ Harlequin - and how did they look in your opinion? =P
@ CCP Chris - I love CCP, but you shall be sure that when you release some pics they are totally and incontrovertibly awesome, for they shall be the first glimpse of something waited for really a long time.
And if they'll not, you'll regret it. I swear *mad and psychotic stare*

I very much appreciate the courtesy in pulling down those images. They came from a former employee who accidentally posted them in a public place while job hunting. Most of the images were over two years old, do not represent the current state of the project and would not be the first impression we would like people to have of World of Darkness. They were simple prototypes and tests. We continue to try and not hype the product until we are ready to make more concrete announcements. Thanks for understanding.

@Beren - The main pics were 2 from character creation. One showed a default female avatar leaning on a bar with NPCs in the background. The foreground GUI asked to select the mortal gender and skin tone. The second was a female malk in the game world with city buildings in the background. The other 2 big pics were a character haven. Looking nice a lower middle class one room studio/flat with average basic furniture and a file cabinet and desk work area. The other pics were all non-textured Gothic city buildings (interior and exterior) and 2 maps of parts of a city. One seemed to be a map of Chinatown the other the docks area.

I saw one of the pictures, and it was exactly the kind of thing I've been hoping for.
Leaping from building from building, scaling walls and so on. What more, I wish you'd have the chance to develop the abilities to fly/glide if you're a shapeshifter aka Gangrel and/or Tzmisce. (We're only allowed Camarilla, though).
It'd be great if the gameplay would compare to something you'd find in
Batman: Arkham City. When it comes to traveling, that is. Batman uses his 'Batclaw' (lol) to scale buildings, and his cape to fly incredible distances. If our Vampires could travel around the City in a familiar fashion, it'd be great.
Well, the freedom, playability and such would be of import here. This game was just the best example I could find. We've got other MMOs like 'City of Heroes/Villains' and so on, which allows the player to scale buildings, fly, etc etc etc. (A variety of 'good' traveling powers, that let you scale distances in a short time).
