As you may have heard about already today it was announced the revival of TGM however, sadly, NOLA has been kicked to the wayside in favor of LA. Before the speculation about this change goes into over drive allow me to give my 2 coppers.

Simply, the brain behind the 2 NOLA events was CCP community manager, at the time, Shane DeFreest, who has been recruited to put this together as well. However due to his being released by CCP during the staffing purge of Oct 2011 he was let go and relocated to LA and now acting as a free agent more or less on LARP & White Wolf projects. I am sure part of his agreement to put this together for CCP was it be re-located closer to his home base as he has a full time job in LA. So while I for one would have preferred NOLA I understand the logistics and reality of the situation for Shane and some compromises had to be made.

However all that said lets be honest Shane did a kick ass job last go around so I expect this to be no different. He did after all pick perhaps the best location he could, a art deco 1930's styled ship with a ton of lore. We will try to go this year, however, LA is total opposite side of the country for me and looking at prices now is not very cheap. So we'll see where we are funds wise in a couple months.

None the less good to have TGM back, with EVE announcing they recently broke over 500K subs CCP has some money to put back into PR events such as this once again.

UPDATE: Seems my speculation was off, Shane responded to this post on Facebook (which I honestly don't check often anymore) and made some corrections & clarifications to my assumptions. Here is what he had to say;

Shane DeFreest: Peter, much of what you have written isn't accurate. If you have questions about something I'm involved in please ask. Yes, I helped identify and vet some historic locations for Ric Byrne Connely who's the event manager on this but I'm not a CCP contractor, freelancer, etc. By Night Studios will have a significant presence at the event but we are not ready to release details on that.

I'll follow this up by saying that The LA By Night event is NOT Grand Masquerade. It's a one off event while more upscale than the Atlanta By Night Event in 2012 it's not The Grand Masquerade. NOLA was not "kicked to the wayside" in favor of LA.Truth be told By Night Studios actually has our main residence in NOLA and I would have preferred to have an event there. However, until CCP decides to do an event at the massive scale again I would not expect it to return to NOLA. (That's speculation on my part, not super secret inside knowledge.) With that being said The Queen Mary is a gold ranked Historic hotel of America as was the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans.

Harl note: I will respond by saying if the above came off as fact not speculation that is my error and I take full responsibility for that. I felt the 'my 2 coppers' at the start, and filing this under "Op Ed"  made clear this was just speculation on my part. Certainly no harm or malice was intended on my part just some thoughts.

That said, the way the event comes off via the web site, to me, sounds like a re-located TGM. And from the replies in the forums I am not the only one under this impression. Clearly we are wrong by what Shane stated above. This does change the entire dynamic for me and I must assume others as well who were under this same impression. When the official TGM twitter account tweeted about this event I don't think one can be wronged for thinking what we did. That all said, I will leave the community to shift though the rest of this new clarification and I thank Shane for clearing up these points.

    In regards of news articles, I consider it "good form" to mention the cities and games at least once with their real names before starting to use acronyms.

    Okay, I am military retired, but please, define the acronyms. Even if it is a footnote on the bottom, it is better then going out and trying to find what all the acronyms mean. Thanks. (Meant as a helpful suggestion [for acronym dummies like me] and not to be insulting).

      NOLA = New Orleans (last 2 Grand TGMs' have been here CCP = Crowd Control Productions (whitewolf merged w/ CCP) LA = Los Angeles (City in California, USA) LARP = Live Action Role Play (dressing and acting to Role Play) TGM = The Grand Masquerade (WhiteWolf/CCPs VtM Fan Event) VtM= Vampire the Masquerade (White Wolfs First game in the World of Darkness table top world)

    Glad to see TGM is still alive and kicking. In regards to funding, lets not forget that they have begun making money off DUST 514. I personally have spent 25$ buying the 20$ merc pack and 10,000 aurum for 5$. Many of the players I play with use boosters aswell and have been spending money on Dust514. This bodes well for CCP!
